 Why Wax?

My technique is clean, precise, and thorough. Regular waxing makes it easier on you. There is a sting associated with pulling hair from its root. A gloved hand pressure soothes the skin, reducing discomfort. 

Hygienic, esthetic, and sensory are the best reasons for removing body hair. 

It’s clean, looks better or sexy, and feels good.

There are many options for hair removal, from shaving to expensive laser treatments. Still, by far, waxing remains the most viable option. Waxing removes hair with relatively little pain and provides a prolonged period of smooth hairless skin. In addition, waxing is the least expensive, quick, and easy way to remove unwanted hair.

Why the term “Brazilian”?

Most folks cringe at the mention of body wax. I know, for my work is thought chiefly as painful, too intimate, or even, by some, obscene. Still, body wax is ever becoming very popular in this country.

How did the “Brazilian” name come to be, and where does it originate?

Sporting a smooth body is centuries old, especially in hot climates. In ancient times folks used epilation methods for health and hygienic reasons. It was the best way to keep lice in check, which is prevalent in these cultures. Women used a sugar and lemon paste method to epilate the skin. Sugaring today is an alternative to wax to get rid of unwanted hair. However, this idea did not spread to the new world till the advent of bikinis and the beaches of Brazil began to see women in ever-smaller bathing suits.

This fashion was finally taken internationally in 1987 when the J Sisters, seven Brazilian sisters, opened a waxing salon in N.Y.C. and introduced the idea and techniques of pubic hair removal. Soon, the salon gained celebrity clients. As a result, Brazilian wax became famous, associating Brazil with pubic hair removal and earning its name.

My work brought the challenge of using techniques developed and generally applied to women’s needs to those presented by men. Estheticians quickly developed new postures, procedures, and skills to cater to the needs of males. However, the male service continued to use terms, in my opinion, applied to those women. I don’t think “Brazilian” is an excellent term to describe the male service estheticians provide. Let’s call it for what it is; the “Anal Periphery” wax. I named. The “Men’s Package” includes the remaining groin area. That is the buttocks, perineum, scrotum, shaft, and pubis.

INGROWN HAIR

Having tightly curled hair is the main risk factor for ingrown hairs. From what I gathered, body wax may induce ingrown hairs. Still, from training and experience, the proper technique makes the difference in the outcome. I've found wax temperature, application, and speed get better results and diminish the possibility of ingrown hairs. I require clients to shower right before the service as the way to go. Squeaky clean skin prevents possible ingrown hair. I use honey wax designed for sensitive skin. To clients concerned with ingrown hairs, I apply a layer of Neosporin Cream before final skin polish with Restore; a quality product that restores exfoliated skin to its natural state. Through body wax hair root is disturbed, developing a scab partially over it. The result is a more delicate hair that grows from what's left of the bulb. In theory, frequent waxing will eventually rid the skin of unwanted hair. Still, I've found this more true for women, as men produce more testosterone. I've been waxed for over two decades and continue to grow hair. But, it's more refined, not stubby, and easier to remove once again. The more often you wax, the more accessible, the minor discomfort and enjoyable it becomes.            

 

According to The Mayo Clinic:   “An ingrown hair occurs when a shaved or tweezed hair grows back into the skin. It can cause inflammation, pain and tiny bumps in the area where the hair was removed.                                                Ingrown hair is a common condition that results from hair removal. It's most prevalent in black men who shave facial hair. But ingrown hair can affect anyone who removes hair by shaving, tweezing or waxing. Often, an ingrown hair improves without treatment.”                                  Causes                                                 Hair structure and direction of growth play a role in ingrown hairs. A curved hair follicle, which produces tightly curled hair, is believed to encourage the hair to re-enter the skin once the hair is cut and starts to grow back. Shaving creates sharp edges in this type of hair, especially if the hair is dry when shaved.
